In the era of globalization and technological development, firms operate in a highly competitive context, leading to an increase in working hours and intensification of work. This results in phenomena such as burnout, stress, reduced productivity and disruption of work-life balance. This thesis investigates the relationship between working hours, productivity and employee well-being in the modern workplace. Specifically, it examines the evolution of working hours, analyzes variations in labor practices across different countries and presents theoretical frameworks such as the theory of economic efficiency, the law of diminishing returns and the theory of workplace well-being. To investigate the impact of long working hours on productivity and employee well-being, a systematic literature review was conducted. The analysis indicates that there is an optimal point of working hours, beyond which productivity declines. Moreover, flexible forms of work contribute to increasing productivity and improving employee well-being. Finally, the thesis presents recommendations for adopting best workplace practices—such as implementing flexible schedules, promoting work-life balance, and investing in employee well-being—and suggests directions for future research in the field.
