The application of new technologies in the tourism industry is a key strategic process for businesses, marking a new era in tourism.New technologies have fundamentally transformed the way travellers plan, book, experience and share their travel experiences, thus businesses have to adapt and exploit a range of technological tools. Furthermore, the usefulness of mobile applications, the impact of Internet of Things (IoT) and Blockchain technologies in the tourism industry will be examined. This thesis sets three research objectives. First, it attempts to document the latest developments in terms of new technologies in the tourism industry. In addition, through the parallel use of literature, secondary research and use of real case studies, it aims to highlight the impact of new technologies and the advantages they bring to the industry both for the guests and enterprises. Lastly, it intends to highlight the challenges arising from the emergence of new technologies, to highlight the needs for further improvement and to raise additional questions for future research.
