This paper presents an application of the FINEVA (FINancial EVAuation) multicriteria knowledge-based decision support system in the assessment of corporate failure risk. The FINEVA system combines an expert system, a multivariate statistical method (principal components analysis), and the multicriteria method UTA (UTilités Additives), to provide interactively, estimations concerning the performance and the viability of firms. The integration and the complete interaction of these parts are the basic characteristics of the system. The application presented in this paper, is based on a sample of 39 industrial and commercial Greek firms.
