Summary

This paper analyzes the parameters that determine and affect the environmental quality of urban roads. These parameters are grouped in five categories: bio-climatic, urban planning, traffic parameters, artificial elements and other parameters. After theoretically analysing all the parameters of the above categories, they are tested in practice for 16 representative roads of the urban complex of Heraklion. Following this, we compare the results of the above-mentioned analysis that can be quantified and draw certain conclusions for the current environmental quality of the roads examined and, by extension, for all the roads of the urban complex of Heraklion. Based on these conclusions, we propose certain interventions for upgrading the environmental quality of the city's roads that are of relevance to the state, as well as to the private sector.
