Summary

Regression analysis is often used in multicriteria decision making, as an alternative to multiattribute utility theory, for modeling the preferences of individual or groups of decision makers. The UTA multicriteria procedure, a member of the family of the regression-based approaches, incorporates an ordinal regression method to assess a set of utility functions which best preserve the holistic preference stated by an individual. This paper surveys the UTA method and the variations that have been developed to date and presents a post-optimality analysis technique which, as a second optimization stage in the UTA method, improves the consistency indicators between the utility function and the decision maker’s subjective preferences.
