The objective of this study was to identify the corrosion products which areformed onto the surface of Zero Valent Iron (ZVI) during arsenic removal from geothermalgroundwaters and to clarify the role of the corrosion products in the mechanism of arsenicremoval. The results of this study demonstrated that carbonate green rust was formed onto thesurface of ZVI during short and long term column experiments. In addition, As(V) was mainlyreduced to As(III) onto the surface of ZVI. A small amount of As(III) was oxidized to As(V) andthat was attributed to the formation of carbonate green rust and other corrosion products on thesurface of ZVI.
