Summary

Odour problems are becoming more and more significant over the past three decades andwastewater treatment plant (WWTP) operators are often faced with a difficult problem to resolve ina cost efficient manner. In this study, we present our results from (1) H2S measurements and odouranalysis for the treatment of odorous gases escaping from several points of Chania WWTP and (2)oxidant (H2O2) addition to reduce significantly the odours at specific locations within the WWTP ofChania. For the short run, H2O2 introduction to the liquid phase provides immediate odour control.Typically, a flow rate of 0.5 L/min spray of H2O2 at the surface was sufficient to suppress odours ina 1000 m3/h recycle stream.
