COLearn is a web-based collaborative learning environmentthat supports the specification of collaborative learningworkflows, their deployment and enactment. It addressesmajor challenges in modern learning infrastructures to enablecontextualization, social constructivism and knowledge-pull. Itoffers a shell, easily integrated on top of existing open learninginfrastructures (such as LMSs and OER repositories) to enrichtheir capabilities by offering functionality to design rich collaborativelearning activities. COLearn run-time environment isused to enact these activities and workflows. This way, COLearnleverages the power of the underlying infrastructures, providesstructure to the groups of learners that participate in learningworkflows, dynamically adapts the workflows during theirenactment, monitors their evolution to facilitate assessment andprovides feedback to the learners. COLearn employs an intuitivegraphical representation exploiting the Business Process ModelingNotation standard. As an internal representation and interoperabilitymodel it uses IMS Learning Design thus offering effectivesharing and remixing of learning designs.
