Summary

The financial crisis that struck Greece in 2009 strongly affected the Greek economy and by extension the entrepreneurship. This research is focused on examining the way in which the economic crisis has affected the Greek entrepreneurship and to investigate the factors which can make a business sustainable or even profitable during a recession. The sample consists of 20 profitable businesses of all kinds of sectors apart from the banking/insurance sector and the time period of interest is 2009 to 2013. The research begins with theoretical reviews and bibliographic references and then it is followed by a financial analysis that uses financial indicators. Then, the most important elements are evaluated with the use of a factor analysis to be used in a multicriteria decision aid tool, the PROMETHEE outranking method, that contributes to the classification of the enterprises. The results of this report have proven the original idea of the research, that recession doesn’t only depress but it also creates opportunities.
