Summary

In the present dissertation thesis, through the spectrum of the operational analysis, we approach the "crisis" which is a consequence of the illegal criminal behavior of people who chose to confront the normality of society and oppose the implementation of the existing legislation established by the State, prompting the immediate, flexible and correct decision-making of crisis managers. The staff of the Hellenic Police has carried out the difficult task of preventing and repressing crime, in whatever form it manifests itself, and is daily facing crisis situations that need immediate and particular confrontation and should manage really critical incidents that take place almost everyday.From the suicidal incidents where individuals, due to the psychological problems they face, oscillate between life and death, to the critical situations of hostage that pose a life risk to the people detained, they are some of the most characteristic examples of the crisis situations to be managed by the Greek Police and resolve them incomprehensibly.We refer to the ways in which these critical incidents are manifested and to the factors that contribute to the creation of a crisis climate, as well as to the procedures and ways of managing these situations by the Hellenic Police. We analyze the phases of the crisis as a result of the incident, as well as its climaxes. We investigate the causes that lead to people's "conflict" with the Law and we analyze the types of people who, according to the psychological approach, can present a moment of crime. We also refer to the role of bargaining capacity that contributes substantially to crisis management, as well as to settled negotiation tactics that are used to make the right decisions in critical situations.In the last part, we study three cases of crisis, how they evolved and how they were handled by the Hellenic Police. The study was carried out using the qualitative research method and in particular we followed the comparative multiple cases study in order to obtain safe conclusions for further study.
