Περίληψη

Among challenges that stakeholders within the agri-food sector face, namely the Government, Universities and public or private Research Institutes, consumers, farmers and the industry, one of paramount importance refers to the knowledge and technology transfer from agricultural science to enhance industry competitiveness and social welfare. Papers edited in this special issue have been presented in the 2015 EAAE seminar [146th seminar of the European Association of Agricultural Economists held in MAICh, Chania, Greece, July 15–16, 2015 (http://146eaae.maich.gr/)] entitled “Technology transfer as a driver of innovative entrepreneurship in agriculture and the agri-food industry.” They examine how knowledge producers and consumers cope with and device ways to trigger moving from institutional tactical fragmentation to strategic technological integration of the agribusiness value adding. Focus is given in analyzing academic technology transfer activity development in a follower innovator country to study dynamics and whether practices undertaken take advantage of what others have done in the past and the probability of learning resulting in leap-frog to appropriate initiatives so that to promote research outcomes commercialization.
