Summary

The goal of the present thesis is to simulate a one and a half stage of a modern gas turbine, calculate performance parameters and validate said simulation through a normality check of these parameters, with the use of existing literature. The simulated one and a half turbine stage can then serve as a testbed for further investigation of turbomachinery related phenomena, such as erosion. It can also be used as a starting point in order to investigate off-design situations, such as transient phenomena, chocking, etc. To achieve said goal, the steps taken are the following:• Geometry measurements of existing rotor blades and stator vanes, in order to achieve adequate data for the drawing process. Other known engine parameters (for existing engine) were used to aid in the understanding of the operating conditions of the examined turbine. • Construction of 3D drawing of the blades with the use of a CAD software.• Meshing and simulation of the corresponding geometry with the use of an engineering simulation software.• Calculation of dimensionless performance parameters, based on the simulation results.• Comparison of calculated dimensionless parameters with normal ranges established in the literature.
