Summary

Private label has today penetrated deeply into the lives and most importantly the shopping habits of the consumers. Almost all the super market chains, not only abroad, but also Greece’s, offer alternative and affordable solutions to the main problem the consumer face which is, how they can do shopping based on the best quality – price relationship. The current diploma thesis is a qualitative survey on the private label products in Greece. Its goal is to record the policy of the Greek super markets chains on the private label products. For this policy, three topics are studied, the private label products, the supplier selection process and the inventory management of the super market chains. For this study, information on the private label products, supplier selection process and inventory management was collected from three major Greek super market chains. This information was collected through personal interviews with local branch managers with the use of a questionnaire on the three topics that are discussed in this diploma thesis. The identities of the people that were questioned as well as the super market chains they represented are private. Through their answers, a consensus was made about the Greek super markets’ policy on the private label products.
