Summary

In each self-propelled structure there is a support frame for its individual parts, referred to as frame or chassis and is the most essential element of a vehicle. The aim of this thesis is the design, study and development of the frame and suspensions for the "Spyros Louis” hydrogen-powered prototype vehicle of the TUCER team of the Technical University of Crete. Factors such as the ShellEco Marathon International Fuel Economy Competition, optimal positioning and support for other vehicle systems as well as increased driver safety are considered for the design. The installation of a suspension system is also researched and developed, targeting better stress formulation due toadditional forces from the road. Following the design is the process of modeling the assembly and applying loads and forces. Then, a finite element analysis is performed to control the static strength of the structure. This analysis is carried out by comparing different chassis designs, resulting in the final design of the frame to be constructed.
