Summary

Solar thermal systems are a technology that has grown rapidly in recent years, due to their attractiveness on an economic and environmental basis. However, they do not cease to need further improvement, mainly due to the heat losses they have during periods of insufficient sunshine. In this diploma thesis, a detailed study, design, and development of an experimental solar thermal system for heating domestic hot water is carried out. The design and construction of this device was carried out at the Technical University of Crete and is described in detail. The purpose of the diploma is, through experimental measurements, to record the results concerning the thermal efficiency of an advanced evacuated tube solar collector, the determination of the instantaneous efficiency of the collector as well as the daily efficiency of the thermal system. Finally, useful conclusions are drawn, resulting from the study of the experimental device.
