Summary

This thesis deals with problems of demand forecasting and production planning. In the first stage of this thesis we study the demand forecasting problem. A number of exponential smoothing methods and autoregressive moving average models (ARMA) are tested using the SPSS statistical analysis program. This research is based on the use of production data, which are available by permission of the company. The second stage involves a production plan which determines the production requirements of the factory over a period of several months. Specifically, classical linear programming is applied to optimize the profit under availability constraints for various demand scenarios which are based on forecasts and real data.
