Summary

This thesis is related to the inventory management policy of a public water company service and its evaluation. The aim of this work is to review DEYA's inventory management policy and evaluate its effectiveness. Initially, there will be a small historical retrospection on the management of inventory and the first methods of their control, reaching up to the present day. We will then address the role of inventories in the supply chain, their types, categories, and methods of valuation. Reference will also be made to the Economy Order Quantity model and especially to the "father" of this model, Ford Whitman Harris. In a general context, the most well-known methods of classification will be mentioned. Next, we will list the regulations for the establishment of DEYA, their status of operation, their work, the way they operate, as well as the procurement regulation and the materials they manage. Finally, we will refer to the classification systems we implemented in DEYA, and mainly to the ABC classification and the benefits that result from it. In addition, a comparison will be made between the classification methods we managed by quoting our conclusions from the combination of classifications. We aspire through this research to see where the inventory management system is lagging behind and where we need to focus to fix it. We would like to identify strengths and weaknesses in the way stocks are managed and trigger the business for innovative changes that will make it more effective.
