Blockchain is one of the modern technologies in the era of digitalization, which in recent years tend to be integrated into the maritime supply chain by various shipping companies in order to strengthen ,their competitiveness. The shipping industry is characterized as an area with complex and time- consuming procedures that require appropriate management to deal with many problems that have been created. However, researches as regard the adoption and application of this technology in maritime transport is limited to analyzing specific benefits such as reducing transportation time and cost, tackling the problem of red tape, without taking a holistic approach to the adoption of Blockchain technology in the shipping industry. The analysis of the advantages and obstacles involved in its implementation, demonstrates the need for better information and training of all interested parties in order to be able to understand its use through cos-benefit analysis. Analysis of research results in this paper highlights the need for all maritime stakeholders to seize the opportunities offered by the adoption of Blockchain as an important mitigating factor of the relevant risks arising in the course of transactions with their partners and to enhance their transparency and effectiveness.
