Summary

This diploma thesis illustrates the systematic role played by Lean and Six Sigma continuous improvement systems in manufacturing technologies. A systematic literature review was conducted to identify and explore the many benefits offered by the implementation of the two methods in the manufacturing sector and also note motivation factors, limitations and impeding factors. Revolved around the Toyota Production System and how they managed to formulate and implement lean, as we know it, this thesis also discusses modern trends and modern needs of manufacturers in the age of Industry 4.0.
