Summary

The Covid-19 pandemic has affected all of humanity in different areas, creating a new reality. In Greece, in March 2020, the country was declared in quarantine, suspending people's daily activities. In this context, classes in the country's universities were also suspended. It was therefore imperative to find a way to continue the lessons. E-learning was adopted as an emergency measure to continue the courses. As the transition from face-to-face courses to e-learning was quite rapid, several studies were carried out to determine whether this new way of conducting courses was effective. For this reason, a survey of student satisfaction of distance learning was conducted during the Sars-Cov-2 pandemic at the Technical University of Crete. The main research question was whether the students were satisfied with the distance learning. The survey was conducted using an electronic questionnaire which consisted of 7 demographic questions and 13 questions in a 1-5 Likert scale format. A total of 143 students participated in the survey who attended courses via telecourses in various departments of the Technical University of Crete, both undergraduate and postgraduate level. The methodology followed for the analysis of the results was quantitative and was carried out through the IBM SPSS Statistics program. In addition to overall student satisfaction, the factors that influence it and the model that explains it were identified. The main method of analysis of the results was linear regression analysis. According to the results of the survey, most of the students were satisfied with e-learning but there were several students who kept a neutral attitude. The main factors that influenced students' satisfaction were the contribution of e-learning in achieving course objectives and understanding, cooperation with the lecturer and fellow students, increased student achievement and that some courses are always preferable to be taught through e-learning. The findings of the study contribute to make e-learning more effective and increase student satisfaction as it is very likely to be established in some curricula. Finally, based on the results of this research, ideas for further research on e-learning at the Technical University of Crete are proposed.
