The impact of data analysis is exponentially increasing in the business world, where companies, now more than ever before, harness their data in order to outperform their competition, as well as to achieve a secure and profitable growth. Methodical and systematic data analysis leads to the acquisition of valuable information, which in return aims to support the formulation of strategic plans and to provide insights related to crisis management, control and risk minimization and visualization of conclusions with simplicity and clarity. The main goal of this dissertation is to analyse, compare and contrast the definitions of Big, Open and Public Data, describe typical Business Intelligence systems and provide further insight on wisdom and information mining algorithms. Finally, reports and data visualizations are produced through the use of Tableau software, showcasing the range of capabilities and flexibility offered by its utilization, through a case study of an Insurance Company’s database, in order to draw conclusions regarding the relationship between business and customer audience.
