Summary

The propagation of plane harmonic body waves in an unbounded, fully saturated, elastic rock medium characterized by two degrees of porosity—one due to the pores and the other due to the fissures—is studied analytically‐numerically. The analysis reveals the existence of four kinds of body waves, one shear and three compressional, which are characterized by dispersion and attenuation. A parametric numerical study leads to the conclusion that, for certain ranges of frequency, velocity and attenuation of the two‐porosity model exhibit considerable differences from their values for the single‐porosity model.
