Summary

Global awareness of how harmful the fashion industry is to the environment has sparked a widespread recognition of the need for change. This paper delves into the imperative for both consumers and fashion stakeholders to align with Circular Economy (CE) principles and sustainability practices. The CE framework is emerging as a critical guiding approach for the fashion sector, supporting sustainable product development, cleaner technologies and environmentally friendly materials. The transition to circularity requires a comprehensive reassessment of many aspects in the fashion industry, including design, material selection, production methods, distribution, ownership and disposition. This transformation depends on the integration of innovative technologies, alternative materials and new business models. The adoption of circular strategies also ensures a sustainable business model that respects the planet and its resources. Yet the adoption of circularity extends beyond the environmental benefits. Renewable energy sources play a central role in driving circular operations, enhancing the ecological benefits. digital fashion modeling is another major transformative factor in fashion, redefining the creative rules through precision and efficiency. Incorporating technologies such as 3D rendering and virtual prototyping accelerates the design process while reducing the need for wasteful physical prototypes. This digitized change enables a wider exploration of design possibilities, promoting both creativity and sustainability. This paper examines the alignment of fast fashion companies with circular principles, exploring evolving business models and their environmental impacts. In particular, the efforts of some top fast fashion companies to transition towards circularity are highlighted, highlighting the growing environmental consciousness of the 21st century. Presenting indicators that measure aspects of sustainability, this paper highlights the potential of the fashion industry to reduce pollution, protect the environment and ensure a sustainable future.
