Summary

This thesis aims to introduce you to digital twin technology and the industries where DTs are particularly beneficial. Several examples showcase how DTs can be used in various fields, highlighting the advantages and user benefits. The focus then narrows to the construction sector, specifically their application in infrastructure projects. The Aposelemi dam in Heraklion serves as a prime example of how this evolving technology is being implemented for smoother and more efficient operation. However, as digital twin (DT) technology progresses, businesses must take steps to mitigate legal risks and ensure secure and seamless implementation. Therefore, this thesis emphasizes the importance of a robust regulatory framework to avoid issues like unclear contracts, legal disputes, improper data disclosure, and unreliable information. It also references relevant ISO standards that form the foundation for digital twins.
