Summary

This paper deals with the shape control of beamsunder general loading conditions, using piezoelectric patchactuators that are surface bonded onto beams to provide thecontrol forces. To formulate the model, we use beam superconvergentfinite elements based on two mathematicalmodels, namely the shear-deformable (Timoshenko) andthe shear-indeformable (Euler-Bernoulli) model. Theoptimal values for the locations of the piezo-actuators aredetermined. Using genetic algorithm, optimal voltages forshape matching are obtained for cantilever beams.
