The present dissertation proposes an implementation framework for the assessment of the educational process in higher education having ultimate aim the student success and generally the improvement of the learning and educational experience of the students. The development of the framework was based on the concept of 'intelligent accountability', where the two assessment processes (formative and cumulative) converge, focusing on self-evaluation, in order to increase the mutual trust between the members of the academic community (students, academics and administrators). In order to achieve the effectiveness of the framework have been taken into account theories of Total Quality Management, change and behavior theories, as well as cognitive, psychometric and pedagogical models. For the development of the framework, were used sources from the international literature review, studies on the implementation of the national and European Quality Assurance Framework, as well as data from interviews and surveys, which were carried out for the purposes of this dissertation (in MODIPs, academic staff, and students). Main purposes of the three surveys, among other things, were the identification of the problems that face the Greek universities during the implementation of the quality assurance processes, the adaption of the international practices to the Greek reality and the quality culture level existing in the Greek academic communities.Other innovative outputs of the dissertation are:- a method for the collection and identification of valid and qualitative responses of the students deriving from the course assessment, as well as from all types of surveys or polls (in paper or electronic format), especially for the extensive ones. - a conceptual model of the factors affecting the students’ participation in the Student Evaluation of Teaching (SET).This dissertation has been developed in the form of a user manual so that the reader can navigate himself according to its needs. There are cross-references throughout the document directing to the sources of the research proposal/conclusions, or to additional information available to chapter/paragraphs or annexes or web links for further readings and deeper knowledge concerning pedagogical and communication techniques, education and assessment tools, parts of assessment frameworks, certification tools, statistics, etc. Main purpose of the proposed framework is to support the Greek universities to implement effectively the quality assurance process engaging the whole academic community in it and to confront the challenges of the educational evolution happening to international level (online courses, Learning for Sustainability, student-centered learning, focus on student retention and success, flexible curriculum, lifewide learning, etc.) making available to them an implementation stepwise plan in phases and a collection of diagnostic tools, assessment and educational techniques and practices. Additionally, academics can find useful the literature review of this dissertation to get informed about the current and upcoming developments in higher education, to enrich their knowledge about cognitive and communication models and tools on for student-centered teaching and other pedagogical subjects. Mainly, they should understand the importance of the implementation of a quality teaching to the student success and generally to the improvement of the educational process, hoping to act creatively for the benefit of students, their institution and consequently to the societal development. It also aims to raise the awareness of the students about the recent developments of student learning and success, which are happening to the education universally and are beneficiary to them, hoping to make them understand how important is to participate actively in their learning and become successful in their studies, as they are the future scientists who will help the development of their region/country, but also due to internationalization, the sustainable development of the whole mankind.
